Grammar Assessment
Includes Frau's Grammar Videos
Here you will find the grammar assignments for your German course with Frau Doktor Bogard.
Please use your own paper, or print the pages at home, and handwrite all your answers. If you get stuck writing any answers, circle or star the question number and ask for help when you are in class with your German teacher.
Every chapter contains a challenge exercise. It's the one that is most important for the development of your German skills. Please ask for a lesson before attempting more than the first couple questions. Show your teacher your first answers and you will get a great opportunity for a one-on-one grammar lesson, as well as, a possible gift (a color grammar chart).
Each grammar chapter begins with a set of vocabulary exercises based on a particular theme. Please complete the assigned exercises in that first part of the chapter with the goal of memorizing them and expanding your vocabulary.
Each chapter also ends with a culture lesson. Please read it thoroughly and be prepared to discuss how that cultural topic is different than in your native country.
Once you have completed the entire chapter (do not leave anything blank), get a red pencil and use the answer key to correct all your mistakes. Do not erase any of your original work, just write the correct answer above the wrong answer. Please don't mark an X or a minus sign next to incorrect answers. The only red writing should be for corrections.
Once you have finished correcting your work, please take the online grammar quiz for that completed chapter without using any resources- no Internet, no dictionary, no notes, no help from classmates, etc. The first score will give you valuable feedback that tells you how well you are understanding the German lessons. If you score ver low, it means you need to ask more questions while you work through your chapter. You also need to slow down and think about what the chapter is trying to teach you.
If you don't score a 100% on your first attempt, you may go back into the chapter and look up the answers. You may never ask a classmate for any answers. You are required to retake a chapter quiz until you score a 100%. You will have to show your teacher your score during the grading of your chapter.
Your ability to follow the grammar rules in these chapters is absolutely necessary, if you want to speak or write German so that people can understand you correctly.
Think of German vocabulary as building blocks and the grammar rules as a blueprint. You need both in order to create anything beautiful and strong.
Keep up your motivation to do this challenging work, by reminding yourself why you want to learn German. Realize that knowing how to speak and write a second or third language is a special skill that will give you an advantage in your future. No one ever regretted being fluent in more than one language! Your work here will help you make this possible. Good luck :)
